Revelation and the True Jubilee
The Torah commanded Israel to proclaim a Jubilee every 50th year (Leviticus 25): debts cancelled, land restored, slaves freed, and the land itself given rest. Yet history shows no full Jubilee ever being kept. At best there were half-hearted attempts, and at worst the commands were ignored completely. The prophets remind us that when the people failed, the land was left to “enjoy its Sabbaths” while they were cast into exile (2 Chronicles 36:21). ...
